Bolivia operates as a democratic republic and holds elections to determine its political representatives. Here is some information about the election system in Bolivia:

  1. Presidential Elections: The President of Bolivia is elected through a direct popular vote. Presidential elections are typically held every five years. To win in the first round, a candidate must secure an absolute majority (50%+1) of the votes or obtain at least 40% of the votes with a 10-point lead over the second-place candidate. If no candidate meets these criteria, a second round is held between the top two candidates.
  2. Plurinational Legislative Assembly: The Plurinational Legislative Assembly is the legislative body of Bolivia and is composed of two chambers: the Chamber of Deputies (lower house) and the Chamber of Senators (upper house). Members of both chambers are elected through a proportional representation system.
  3. Electoral Process: The Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Bolivia is responsible for organizing and overseeing elections in the country. It ensures the transparency and fairness of the electoral process, including voter registration, candidate nomination, and the counting of votes. International observers may be invited to monitor the elections.
  4. Voter Eligibility: Bolivian citizens who are at least 18 years old have the right to vote. Voter registration is required, and citizens must be included in the electoral roll to participate in elections. Eligible voters can cast their ballots at designated polling stations within their respective electoral districts.
  5. Election Results: In presidential elections, the candidate who receives the majority of valid votes in the second round, if required, is declared the winner and assumes the presidency. In the Plurinational Legislative Assembly, seats are allocated based on the proportion of votes each political party or coalition receives.
