Brunei is an absolute monarchy, and it does not hold elections to determine its political representatives. The country is governed by the Sultan of Brunei, who holds executive and legislative powers. The Sultan and the royal family play a central role in the governance of Brunei, and the political system is based on the principles of Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB).
Under the MIB system, the Sultan serves as the head of state and exercises authority over the government and administration. The Sultan’s decisions and policies are influential in shaping the country’s affairs. The Sultan appoints and holds authority over key government positions, including the prime minister, cabinet members, and other high-ranking officials.
While there are no elections for political representatives in Brunei, the country does have a Legislative Council (Majlis Mesyuarat Negara). The Legislative Council consists of appointed members who provide advice and consultation to the Sultan on matters of governance and legislation. The members are selected by the Sultan and represent various sectors of society, including government officials, professionals, and community leaders.
